Vacation

For the past two weeks we’ve been on vacation. There are two words which can describe this period: hard work and illness.

My father, brother and hubby have worked with our new patio. They have done major progress but we are still far from being finished. In total the patio will be ~100 square meters.

My hubby has also started painting the garage! The house we’ll have professional painters do but he decided to save some money and paint the garage by himself. My father-in-law has joined in a few days doing some painting as well. The front of the garage is all finished and looking so great with the olive green color!

On the first day of our vacation I went to the hospital for my second infusion of Mabthera. The actual treatment went very well and I did not experience any side effects. Afterwards I did get tired but it was not as extreme as after the first infusion. I did rest a lot during the first few days. I also noticed a little nausea which turned to the worse 3 days after the hospital visit. I could barely eat anything except banana and crackers. After a few days with this and feeling extra crappy after eating breakfast and taking my morning meds and figured that maybe it wasn’t only Mabthera to blame but also my other new RA pill–this medicine is called Imurel–I’ve been taking for the past month. I was expecting a phone call from the hospital to hear back on my blood work because Imurel has been playing yo-yo with my liver and when the doctor finally called I was told to stop with Imurel. Not only was the blood result not good in regards to my liver but she said that it was most likely to blame for my stomach issues too. So, no Imurel for two weeks and then new blood work again. For the past three days I’ve been feeling much better! I only wish I’d felt like this during the whole vacation!

During the periods when I haven’t felt like crap my mother and I was baking on the grill! We’ve tried it three different times of sponge cake and baked oat crumpets. Major success! I’ll write a post soon about our new fantastic grill: Big green egg!

Tomorrow it’s back to work again! Our vacation might be over but we still have plenty of more weeks to enjoy the Swedish summer!

Tasty evening

Earlier this week I decided it was time for a new experience at one of the restaurants in Stockholm and I picked a place we’d never been to before, the restaurant F12. I didn’t tell my hubby where to go but rather what time and where to meet after work.

The restaurant has had one star in the Michelin guide since 1997! Clearly it would be a great place for a Friday dining experience!

We decided on the “Spring menu” which was a 3 or 4 courses. I picked 3-course and my hubby the 4-course (which meant an plate of different cheese choices). We also got 4 other smaller courses in between the main dishes. We had a great evening! This was probably the best place I’ve been to ever since our evening at Gastrologik in June last year.

Dinner x 3

We’ve had a quite relaxing weekend even though we’ve spent several hours doing some last finish touch-up painting job before selling our apartment. Actually, to be more exact, my hubby has done most of the work as I’m still having issues with my hip after the cortisone shot a few days ago.

Yesterday we had a nice evening with my brother.  We BBQ’d and watched the finale of the Swedish selection to the Eurovision Song Contest. Love the song which won!! 🙂 Sanna Nielsen with the song Undo! For dinner my hubby grilled a char stuffed with lemon and dill. I made a roe sauce and we also grilled potato. As my brother don’t eat fish he enjoyed a steak. I’m sure we had a far better dining experience! 😉 The char was so big that we’ve now enjoyed it for three different meals… dinner, breakfast and lunch!

Hello 2014!

2014 started like most other new year’s… fireworks and then going to bed around 2 am which as always resulted in a VERY LAZY first day of the year. 🙂 Went to bed at 9 pm last night in order to catch up and after 11 hours of sleep I’m feeling like myself again. Staying up until 2 am really put my whole body and not to mention my joints into a very bad mood. If I didn’t like watching all the fireworks starting off the new year I would so go to bed earlier. Seems so stupid really that the first day of the year is a lazy day instead of a day full of energy. 😉

Now its 2014 and I have 363 days in front of me. I’ve opened the book of 2014 and can fill it with whatever content I want. So exciting!!! My major plan for 2014 is to continue with concentrating on my health. I’ve lost some weight during the past 6 months and I plan on loosing much more during the next 12 months. Exercise and good eating habits will continue to be my key in life.

During the last months of 2013 I finally managed to lower my daily cortisone dose with 1/4 of a pill (2,5 milligram). Might not sound like much but for me it’s a HUGE step! I’ve never managed to follow the plan my doctor set out for me because as soon as I started lowering the dose my body reacted immediately. My dear hubby came up with another solution which worked wonders. I start taking a lower dose every fourth day for the first two weeks, then every third day for the next two weeks etc. After 2,5 months I finally managed to be on the lower dose for 7 days in a row without any issues.  I will start 2014 with trying to lower the dose with another 1/4 of a pill. Pretty soon I’ll be down to only taking 2,5 milligram of cortisone a day. I’m hoping to get rid off that pill too though.

I already have several fun things to look forward to this year… new job, new house, a training trip to Fuerteventura (one of the Canary Islands) with a friend and two races. The short distance race (5 km) is at the end of May and the longer race (10km) in November. I’m considering a 10 km race in September as well but haven’t decided on that one yet.

We’ve now left the year of 2013. We ended it with good food and celebrated the arrival of the new year with watching fireworks.

Afternoon tea

Today we’ve enjoyed a fantastic afternoon tea at Cadierbaren. We went there with my mother-in-law. We didn’t tell her in advance where we were going so it was a nice surprise for her. I’ve been to the afternoon tea there a few years ago and it was just as yummy this time around. I also like it because it’s so calm and peaceful in the restaurant even though it’s basically full of people.

Earlier today I got ready for tomorrow’s New Year’s celebration. I had my nails done and went shopping for a new dress. I’m so happy I found THE perfect dress for such an event. Pictures tomorrow…

Our evening today ended in front of the TV watching Peter Jöback. He’s a hugely popular Swedish musical artist and this Fall he traveled throughout Sweden with the show “I love musicals”. Earlier this year he performed the role of Phantom (in the Phantom of the Opera) on Broadway, and before that he played the same role in London. I love his version of Music of the Night. We were supposed to see this show in real life but I got sick so we couldn’t attend. 😦 Luckily for me it was recorded and shown on TV tonight. 🙂

Family time

We’ve enjoyed several calm and cozy days celebrating Christmas (and my brother’s birthday) with our family. There have been plenty of good traditional food and fun family times. Here is a bunch of pictures of our Christmas week.
