I learned a new word yesterday: iritis (I had to look up exactly what it meant!)
Since Saturday I’ve had issues with my left eye. It’s been hurting, red and I’ve been very sensitive to all kinds of light, both sunlight and lamps. I thought it started to get a little better over the past days but yesterday it turned bad again. I even had to take painkillers for the pain.
In the evening I decided to visit the doctor, so I called the medical center (they have special opening hours in the evening and weekends in case of emergencies not so severe that ER is needed) and 45 minutes later I sat in the waiting room for my appointment. It took the doctor only 5 minutes to check my eye, say that it was most likely iritis, and tell me I had to visit the special eye ER instead.
The Eye ER is only open during regular office hours so this morning I went up early so I could be there right at 8 am when they opened. Around 1,5 hour later I was finished and had my diagnosis: iritis. During the last check of the eye they used a type of eye drops which opens up the pupil. Now my eye got even more sensitive to sunlight! Painfully sensitive! I could barely sit in the light of the waiting room and going outside was terrible! Luckily there was an optician on my way to the subway so I could purchase sunglasses to wear on top of my regular glasses. Very cool! Today I’ve used them both inside and outside.
Now I’ve got two types of eye drops to use in total 8 times during the day. I’ve put an alarm on the phone so I won’t forget! On Wednesday I’m going back again for check up. Hopefully I’m completely recovered then.
I was told by the doctor that it wouldn’t be the last time I had iritis. Apparently it’s “caused” by my RA. Great! One more thing this disease surprise me with! I’m just hoping that it will be a very long time until the next time. Iritis is no fun at all! 😞
