We have tried 2 new restaurant this week during Denver Restaurant Week. We were supposed to have tried 3, but had to cancel one of our reservations. The best thing with the restaurant week as that you pay 52 dollars for two people–or 26 for one–for 3 courses. The restaurants have a special menu to order from with items from their regular menu–you are not forced to take this “restaurant week menu”, it’s still possible you order from the regular menu.
Monday we went to Zengo, a quite trendy place serving Latin-Asian style of food. We went here with our friends Karl and Kelly. Although the regular menu has some great dishes we wouldn’t mind trying we decided to go with the special.
This is what we ate at Zengo:
Appetizer – Hot and Sour soup (Mathias) and Smoked Salmon Tempura (Cecilia)
Main course – Chile rubbed beef tenderloin (Mathias), and Achiote marinated chicken (Cecilia)
Dessert – Dark chocolate spicy mousse cake with mango sorbet (both of us). –Cecilia didn’t like it though, so Kelly suddenly had two dessert’s to eat from!
Yesterday, Friday, we went to India House with our friends Maciej and Rosana. As the name implies they serve food from India! Here there were so many great items on the regular menu that all of us decided to skip the special deal. We have been to Indian restaurants before but each time my allergy has kicked in, and I haven’t enjoyed the evening at all. Mathias has “always” buged me about trying an Indian restaurant again, so when I noticed this place on the restaurant week web site, I decided it was time to try it out! It’s a more upscale place compared to the other places we’ve been to so I thought maybe I would be lucky this time! And I was… no allergy reactions at all. Of course, I took a allergy pill before we started dinner to be on the safe side, but I didn’t notice anything anyway. Most other places tend to have lots of bell peppers in the dishes, but this place didn’t. So, we had a great evening, and if Mathias ever have an urge for Indian food again–or me for that matter–we know were to go!
This is what we ate at Indian House:
Appetizer – Assorted Tandoori Hors D’oeuvres
Main course – Tandoori Murgh (Mathias) and Chicken Tikka Masala (Cecilia)
Dessert – Irish Coffee (Mathias)
The third restaurant we were supposed to have tried was The Oceanaire Seafood Room. Unfortunately, the restaurant week ended yesterday, but we plan on going to this restaurant sometime within the near future anyway. We don’t want to wait a whole year for another restaurant week!
